The Need for Velocità
Buckle up! The Need for Velocità takes you on a wild ride through the stunning coastal mountains of 1960s Italy, following Vittorio, a daring race car driver with a steering wheel literally in his chest. This surreal short film mixes the old-school charm of stop-motion with some fresh 3D techniques, capturing the fast-paced, electric energy of the ’60s. As Vittorio races through the curves, the world around him pulses with vibrant, dreamlike visuals—where vintage flair meets modern animation magic. It’s a playful, high-speed love letter to the golden age of racing, packed with fun, style, and pure imagination.
This project was a fun way to capture the vibe and charm of the ’60s. It all started with a painting sketch of the character Vittorio, which had that cool vintage poster feel I really liked. I ended up turning it into a whole short film idea. I handled everything from modeling and rigging to look dev and lighting. The environment uses some amazing 3D scans from Quixel. It was definitely a challenge to do it all myself and render locally—it took about a month—but it was a great chance to push some techniques, like inverse perspective, dynamic cameras, and storytelling.
